Recovery is a journey — you don’t have to walk it alone

Addiction rarely announces itself. For most people it builds gradually, tangled up with stress, anxiety, trauma, relationships, or pain — until the substance or behavior that once helped you cope starts costing more than it gives. Reaching out for help isn’t an admission of failure. It’s one of the strongest things a person can do.

Addiction counseling at Mana Life Counseling is led by Heather Dick, LCSW, who holds a national certification as a Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) and Pennsylvania certification as a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) — advanced credentials that require extensive specialized training and supervised clinical experience in substance use treatment. With more than 14 years of clinical experience, Heather has supported adults and families at every stage of recovery.

Who we help

Our recovery counseling supports a wide range of situations:

  • Alcohol and substance use you’d like to understand or change
  • Early recovery and relapse-prevention support after rehab or IOP
  • Long-term recovery maintenance and sober living skills
  • Co-occurring anxiety, depression, or trauma alongside substance use
  • Family members and partners affected by a loved one’s addiction
  • Court-, employer-, or license-related counseling needs, including DOT/SAP evaluations

Our approach to addiction treatment

We begin with a comprehensive biopsychosocial evaluation — looking honestly at the biological, psychological, and social factors feeding the cycle. From there, your counselor builds an individualized plan that may draw on cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based relapse prevention, motivational approaches, and psychodynamic work on the deeper roots.

Because addiction so often travels with anxiety, depression, and trauma, our clinicians treat the whole person — not just the substance. And because recovery touches the people around you, we also offer family and couples work when it helps.

Sessions are available in person at our State College office or by secure telehealth anywhere in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Everything you share is confidential.

Need help right now? The SAMHSA National Helpline (1-800-662-4357) is free, confidential, and available 24/7.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to be “an addict” to come in?

Not at all. Many clients come because they’re questioning their habits or want to cut back. Counseling meets you wherever you are — including “I’m not sure this is a problem yet.”

Will my counseling be confidential?

Yes. Substance use counseling records are protected by strict confidentiality laws. Nothing is shared with employers, family, or anyone else without your written consent, except in rare safety situations required by law.

What if I relapse during treatment?

Relapse doesn’t mean failure and it doesn’t mean starting over — it’s information. Your counselor will help you understand what happened and strengthen your plan, without shame.

Do you do DOT/SAP evaluations?

Yes. We provide DOT-qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) evaluations for safety-sensitive transportation employees, with same-week appointments available. See our DOT/SAP Evaluations page for the full process.
