When worry or sadness starts running your life

Everyone feels anxious or down sometimes. But when worry keeps you up at night, when getting through an ordinary day feels heavy, or when you’ve stopped enjoying the things you used to love, that’s your mind telling you it needs support. Anxiety and depression are two of the most common reasons people seek counseling — and two of the most treatable.

At Mana Life Counseling, we’ve helped adults and college students across Centre County and beyond work through anxiety and depression for more than a decade. There’s no single “right way” to feel, and there’s no judgment here — just a steady, compassionate place to start feeling like yourself again.

Signs it may be time to reach out

You don’t need a diagnosis to benefit from therapy. Many of our clients simply notice patterns like these:

  • Persistent worry, racing thoughts, or a sense of dread that’s hard to turn off
  • Trouble sleeping — or sleeping much more than usual
  • Irritability, restlessness, or feeling “on edge” in everyday situations
  • Low motivation, low energy, or losing interest in things you used to enjoy
  • Withdrawing from friends, family, or activities
  • Physical symptoms like tension, headaches, stomach issues, or a racing heart
  • Feeling stuck, hopeless, or overly self-critical

How we treat anxiety and depression

Our counselors draw on well-researched, evidence-based approaches and tailor them to you. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you notice the thought patterns that fuel anxiety and low mood — and practice realistic, kinder ways of thinking and responding. Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MBCT) adds practical mindfulness skills that calm the nervous system and interrupt rumination before it spirals. Psychodynamic therapy goes deeper, exploring the experiences and relationships that shaped the patterns you’re living with today.

In your first session — an initial evaluation — your therapist completes a thorough biopsychosocial assessment so your care plan reflects the whole picture: your history, your relationships, your work or school life, and your goals. From there, most clients meet weekly or biweekly for 45- or 55-minute sessions, in person at our State College office or by secure video from anywhere in Pennsylvania or New Jersey.

Worried about fitting therapy into a busy schedule? Our online therapy sessions use the same evidence-based approaches — from your couch, dorm, or office.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I have anxiety, depression, or both?

They often travel together — about half of people with depression also experience an anxiety disorder. You don’t need to figure it out before calling. Your initial evaluation includes a thorough assessment, and your counselor will talk through what they’re seeing and what would help.

How long does therapy for anxiety or depression take?

It varies. Many clients notice meaningful relief within the first 8–12 sessions of CBT-based therapy, while others benefit from longer-term support. Your counselor will review progress with you regularly so therapy lasts exactly as long as it’s useful — no longer.

Can I do anxiety or depression therapy online?

Yes. We provide secure telehealth sessions to clients anywhere in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and research consistently shows online CBT is as effective as in-person care for anxiety and depression. Visit our online therapy pages for Pennsylvania and New Jersey to learn more.

How much does a session cost?

An initial evaluation is $175. Ongoing sessions are $145 (55 minutes), $125 (45 minutes), or $100 (30 minutes) — the same rates in person or by telehealth. Call 814-933-4622 with any questions about payment.
